Julien D. Guerard, Esq.

Julien Guerard is the President & Shareholder of Desmond, Rand & Guerard, P.A., where his practice includes business, real estate, and select civil litigation. He regularly advises businesses, individuals, and family offices in entity formation and governance, financing, acquisitions and sales, contract negotiation, and commercial real estate transactions. In addition to his transactional work, Julien represents clients in select civil disputes, including breach of contract, mechanic’s lien, & real estate actions and mediation/arbitration proceedings.

Julien earned his B.A. in Government from University of Tampa and J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law. He is currently enrolled at the Texas A&M University School of Law where he is pursuing an LL.M in Risk Management.

A native Mainer, Julien lives along the Southern Maine coast with his wife & daughter. Outside of the office, Julien enjoys Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, golf, weight lifting, and hitting the slopes at Sunday River.

Stephen A. Harlan, Esq.

Stephen is an associate attorney in our business, construction, litigation, & real estate practice. He is a native of Texas and entered the United States Navy after graduating high school. After 22 years of active service, he departed from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. Stephen earned his B.A. in History, magna cum laude, from Columbia College of Missouri and his J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law. Outside of work, Stephen spends time with his wife and kids, volunteers with his local Lions Club, hitting Maine’s hiking trails, and reading books on American history and culture.

Daetan B. Huck, Esq.

Daetan is Litigation Group Chair and Senior Attorney at Desmond, Rand & Guerard, P.A. He tries complex commercial, medical malpractice, and patent cases, leveraging a computer science background and software engineering training. He’s tried 14+ cases to verdict and argued 12+ appeals.

Admitted across New England and registered with the USPTO, he advises on patent prosecution, licensing, and litigation strategy. His decade-plus practice spans white collar, commercial, and criminal defense, including six years on DUI/DV trials and constitutional appeals. He provides pro bono patent counsel and supports open‑source projects.

B.A., University of Washington (Boren Scholar—Arabic; Critical Language Scholar—Turkish). J.D., CUNY School of Law (AmeriCorps Equal Justice Works). Active in the Boston and Seattle patent law associations. Outside the office, he practices parkour and advises national parkour organizations.

Cassandra L. Morin, Esq.

Cassandra focuses her practice on estate planning with a particular emphasis on wills and trusts. She assists clients in structuring comprehensive plans that protect assets, provide for loved ones, and minimize uncertainty during life’s most difficult transitions. Recognizing that pets are often considered part of the family, Cassandra also incorporates planning for animal dependents into her work, ensuring that pets receive proper care and security even after an owner’s death.

Her practice further extends to probate administration and real estate transactions. With years of experience in estate planning and probate, first as a paralegal and now as an attorney, Cassandra brings both practical insight and legal expertise to guide clients through the complexities of Maine’s probate system.

In select cases, Cassandra also represents clients in matters involving animal law, including veterinary malpractice, ownership and custody disputes, and legal issues related to Maine wildlife.

Cassandra resides in Bowdoinham with her husband and pets. Outside the office, she is actively engaged in volunteer work with local animals, and enjoys birdwatching, swimming, & learning Japanese.

Cassandra is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine (B.A., Communications, Magna Cum Laude) and earned her J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law.

Steven W. Rand, Esq.

Charles E. Trainor, Esq.

Chuck has practiced law for over 40 years, primarily in the areas of workers compensation, personal injury, and social security disability law. He is a member of the Workers Compensation Section of the Maine Bar Association and has been a speaker at various workers compensation law seminars.

A true Mainer, Chuck was born in Waterville and grew up in Cumberland. He and his wife now reside in Portland, where they have lived for over 30 years. When not working, he is kept very busy by his grandchildren and involvement with his local church. Chuck earned his J.D. at the Franklin Pierce Law Center (University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law) and his B.A. from the University of Tampa.

Rita M. Farry, Esq.

Rita brings several decades of experience in civil litigation to her role as Of Counsel with the Firm. Throughout her career, she has represented clients in a wide range of disputes, including complex commercial matters, contract disputes, real estate litigation, and probate-related claims.

Rita lives in Southern Maine and enjoys spending time with her grandson, playing tennis, and traveling.

Christopher J. Ryer, Esq.

Chris has practiced for over 40 years in the areas of real estate, business, probate, estate planning and contract law. He is a title insurance agent and is a member of the Real Estate Section of the Maine State Bar Association. He participates in and conducts closings involving real estate, businesses and mobile homes. Chris engages in estate planning and in administration of estates. He also assists clients in using devises such as trusts and transfer-on-death deeds in order to avoid probate altogether. In this manner, clients can dispose of their assets at death with a minimum of time and expense. Chris and his wife moved to Maine in 1982, and he has been active in his community and with its Lions Club. He spends his free time playing golf, hiking, and traveling.
